I’ve had one of those days today, where I simply couldn’t think of a thing to write.
Not a damn thing.
Which is why it’s now 4.36pm and I’m tapping away on my Mac.
Then I looked up and caught a glimpse of my new Yeti microphone. I bought it so I could record my podcasts and training programmes at higher quality than just my headset.
From the side, this mic looks like R2D2, and every time I see it, it makes me chuckle.
Oh yeah: podcasts! Joe and I recorded my latest episode last night in front of the woodburner, with a glass of Chateauneuf-du-Papes (my favourite red wine). In the meantime you can catch up with the previous episodes here: The Business For Superheroes Show is on iTunes or on Stitcher Radio. The RSS feed is here.
The first time I did it I was so nervous… and I’d been planning it for about four weeks beforehand. I got everything set up with the podcast guys who are dealing with everything for me – all that was left was to record my first episode. So, naturally, I kept putting it off because it was A New Thing and therefore Scary.
In the end, Joe sat me down and said something along the lines of: “Let’s do this shit.” So we did.
That’s what most things come down to, really: getting started. Once you’ve started, I find you usually wonder what you getting so worked up about in the first place.
One of my biggest problems is: “But I can’t do it, because it might not be perfect.” Yep: that stupid excuse for not getting on with things. Then I remember: it doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be good enough.
Good enough is good enough.
Always give value.
Pretty good mantras to live by, I reckon. I just have to keep reminding myself of them…
Anyway. Feeling scared about taking steps in your business? Never fear! My book, Business For Superheroes, will walk you through some simple steps, that will do wonders for your business. If you take action, of course.
Vicky Fraser is a copywriter, author, and entrepreneur. She really did run away with the circus… but when she’s not swinging from a trapeze, she’s showing other copywriters and small business owners how to work with better clients, make more money, and stop missing bathtimes, first words, and dinners with angry partners. In fact, she wrote the book on it. Get your copy here.
PS My little mic really does look like R2D2. And if you tip the mic horizontally, it looks like Marvin has seen something horrifying. Look.
