Well, are you? Be honest, now. Here’s a quick idea for you: instead of randomly meeting people and waiting for them to get in touch with you… Take the intiative.
Do something different.
I’m pretty passive on LinkedIn – I do some advertising on there, but mostly my lovely assistant posts articles and things on there because I don’t really “do” social media. That may change at some point, but for now I’ve better places to spend my time.
I do accept connection requests from most people, though – then promptly forget about them because unless I already know them, frankly most people are forgettable.
They all blend in.
Maybe. But true nonetheless. I see the same junk posted and “liked” and shared whenever I log into LinkedIn, and it’s boring. There’s a handful of people whose posts I pay attention to on there.
And that handful has just grown by one.
Because as per usual I accepted a connection request from a chap called Angus and promptly forgot about him. I must have accepted his request, because we are indeed connected… but I’ve no memory of doing so because, like everyone else, his introduction was utterly forgettable.
OR WAS IT?
A few days later, this landed on my doormat.
Now, I’m not interested in their services at the moment… but if (or when) I decide to dive into LinkedIn a little more deeply, I’ll certainly check Angus out because he stood out in a sea of sameness.
Which is what you need to do if you want to get noticed and grow your business.
And I and my book, Business For Superheroes can help you do that.
Vicky Fraser is a copywriter, author, and entrepreneur. She really did run away with the circus… but when she’s not swinging from a trapeze, she’s showing other copywriters and small business owners how to work with better clients, make more money, and stop missing bathtimes, first words, and dinners with angry partners. In fact, she wrote the book on it. Get your copy here.
PS If you’re wondering what Business For Superheroes can do for you in practical terms, well don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what Julia King had to say:
‘Business for Superheroes’ is a perfect introduction to giving yourself a plan of action for,
a) getting the clients you want for your business through adept marketing, and
b) building confidence in your own ability to be successful as a business owner.
In a massive (and sometimes quite daunting) tidal wave of possibilities, the advice and strategy on marketing in ‘Business for Superheroes’ really helped me clarify what I want for my business, and furthermore, how to get it. Give it a whirl: you won’t regret it.’
