“It’s like shooting fish in a barrel”

Following on from my question about what people are implementing after reading my blog posts, my book, and whatnot. I had a bunch of replies, which I promise I will reply to individually when I’m not so chaotically between homes – including this brilliant email from Bernard:

Cartoon drawing of a large, scared-looking, orange fish in a brown barrel with a target painted on it.

Know how to target your ideal client and it’ll be much easier to get them into your business.

“You once gave me some very good advice about chosing my avatar as my marketing was all over the place and very unproductive. I work as a forensic science and pharmaceutical consultant. When I constructed my avatar Rumpole and started to use him I got so good at targeting clients that it is now like shooting fish in a barrel. Whereas I was formerly getting one or two enquiries a month I now get one definite commission a week. I have Vicky to thank for putting me right. I still have some strategies to implement but now I have the confidence to try them out. Thanks Vicky.

Bernard Leddy”

Well done Bernard – this shizzle works, yo. It really is as simple as getting the fundamentals right. Target your ideal customers, not a panicky scattergun approach.

Take action. Small, consistent action.

See results.

One definite commission from one or two enquiries a month? That’s a business transformation, right there.

This is the stuff I talk about in my book, Business For Superheroes. It’s not sexy. It’s not “ninja”. But it works. Get yourself a copy here.

Vicky Fraser is a copywriter, author, and entrepreneur. She really did run away with the circus… but when she’s not swinging from a trapeze, she’s showing other copywriters and small business owners how to work with better clients, make more money, and stop missing bathtimes, first words, and dinners with angry partners. In fact, she wrote the book on it. Get your copy here.
