There’s a distortion field around your life

The world isn’t full of hate, you know. It just sometimes seems that way because that’s what’s reported in the media.

Be positive, be kind and fight the negativity in life.

The media has its own agenda, and it isn’t necessarily to portray the world the way it actually is.

So here’s my suggestion; it’s short and sweet. Stop watching TV. Stop listening to the news. Stop reading the papers. You’ll hear about the important stuff anyway, and you can seek out the stuff you need to know – like the pros and cons of the EU.

But stop letting the bad news wash over you, because it distorts your reality.

Yes, there’s pain and suffering in this world. Yes, bad stuff happens.

But there’s joy and fun and good stuff happening, too – plenty of it.

When you see something horrific on the news, like the murders in Orlando, look for the helpers in the background. Focus on the people who are doing good, on those who just wanted the freedom to be themselves, not on the lone, hate-filled, bigoted murderer and the very few who are like him.

You can change the world, one small act of kindness at a time because one thing I do know: meeting hate with hate will breed more hatred and distrust.

So, here is my call to action for today: put down the news and do something kind for someone else. Or for yourself. Grab a copy of my bookBusiness For Superheroes and start helping your business grow.

The bad news is there… but you can make your own good news.

Vicky Fraser is a copywriter, author, and entrepreneur. She really did run away with the circus… but when she’s not swinging from a trapeze, she’s showing other copywriters and small business owners how to work with better clients, make more money, and stop missing bathtimes, first words, and dinners with angry partners. In fact, she wrote the book on it. Get your copy here.

PS There’s another good reason to actively look for the good stuff, too. If you want to be successful, you have to be positive – and it’s nigh-on impossible to be positive when you’re surrounded with misery. So acknowledge the tragedies, take a moment to grieve for them; but don’t dwell on it, because that does nobody any good. Instead, focus on making the world better, in whatever way seems best to you.

Let your acts of kindness and your fearlessness and your desire to make the world a better place be a huge fuck-you to those who’d spread hatred and fear.
