Why you, not somebody else?

I struggled for a long time to find who I really was in my business. I found myself inadvertently emulating those I admired – copycatting, really, although it wasn’t intentional.

Make sure you give people a clear reason to choose you over everyone else. Be uniquely yourself.

I didn’t really know what made me different because, let’s face it, copywriters and marketing bods are ten-a-penny on the internet now. It’s the same in your business, too; every niche is saturated.

But let me ask you something: why are you reading my emails, and not somebody else’s? After all, there’s a bazillion people out there who are just as capable as I am. Not as cool, perhaps 😉 but as capable, certainly.

Let me answer my own question, because you might know, but not be quite sure how to articulate it. You’re reading my stuff rather than someone else’s because something about me struck home with you. Something about me stood out for you, and you decided you wanted to be a part of my little corner of the world. Which is ace! And I thank you.

More importantly, though, this is something you can do, too. I can help, because this is one of the things I’m bloody good at: helping business owners identify that something that makes them stand out in a sea of sameness. Believe me, this is one of the most important things you can do for your business, because once you’ve got this nailed, the rest of your marketing will come much more easily.

Doing the groundwork here and now means less effort everywhere else, because your uniqueness does the heavy lifting for you. It allows you to attract just the kind of people you want, draw them in, and build strong relationships with them.

It’s worth doing. And once you’ve discovered how to do this once, for you and your business as a whole, it’s simple to apply the process to all your products and services as you develop them.

Never again will people wonder why they should choose you. Never again will they compare your prices with your competitors. They’ll want to work with you simply because you’re you.

How cool is that?
