Why the Joker is the ultimate business guru

Below is one of my favourite business quotes.

But, it’s not from one of the usual gurus: Tony Robbins, or Seth Godin, or Richard Branson. Or anyone else most people would expect to hear world-class business advice from.

Cos-player dressed as the Joker from Batman.

Here’s a great piece of business advice from the Joker: “If you’re good at something, never do it for free.”

It’s from the Joker.

Yeah, that Joker, from the film Batman: The Dark Knight.

And the advice is:

“If you’re good at something, never do it for free.”

True, dat.

Too many small business owners, especially if they’re new or struggling, give their stuff away free. Usually, the stuff they give away is terrible, too.

Free really is the new expensive.

Not just because we’re all less likely to implement and use something we’ve had for free (I’ve got so many free ebooks and PDFs sitting unread on my hard-drive)… but because something that’s free is (usually – there are exceptions) not worth very much. (That’s why it’s free.)

And even if it is worth something, it’s not perceived that way.

And even if it isn’t perceived as being cheap, you will be. You’ll attract freeloaders.

My point?

The most successful business owners don’t want free.

They solved their business growth problems by investing money (and time and effort).

That’s why my book isn’t just another cheap business book you can pick up for a couple of quid.

Like it or not, it’s like going to a top red-brick university. You pay the money because it’s worth it, it works, and it opens up opportunities that going to a community college never will.

It’s also why people who read my book and implement what they learn are so successful.

Had I given them my business growth system free, they’d never have used it.

Never have benefited from it.

And, never solved their business growth issues.

If you want to read about my book, and get your own copy, go here.

Vicky Fraser is a copywriter, author, and entrepreneur. She really did run away with the circus… but when she’s not swinging from a trapeze, she’s showing other copywriters and small business owners how to work with better clients, make more money, and stop missing bathtimes, first words, and dinners with angry partners. In fact, she wrote the book on it. Get your copy here.

PS The book itself is a model for how you can grow your business. All you have to do is read it and apply it to your business. But you can’t do that unless you’ve got a copy – then take some action. Get the book here.
