How to deliver extreme value without spending a fortune

It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to deliver extreme value, you know. Something that’ll set you apart from your competitors and others in your industry.

Want to add value for your customers? Make them feel special.

I think there’s this mistaken belief that to deliver more value means always adding MORE. More content, more STUFF.

It doesn’t.

A few little creative ideas that cost next to nothing can make a huge difference. Here’s a great example from my friend Mo, who’s out staying in the Philippines at the moment.

He was at a beach resort called South Palm on Bohol (Google it, you’ll want to go immediately) and apart from the place itself being like a 1940s film version of Paradise, the staff were what really made it special.

Three little things the staff did, in fact.

  1. As soon as they arrived, staff greeted them and put a palm-leaf necklace with a fish-shaped pendant around their necks — and gave them a welcome drink. Just a small gesture that cost them next to nothing.
  2. The towels on the beds were folded and shaped into a cute long-eared dog, and put next to a hand-written card that said, “Because there’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away. South Palm Family.” Just a small thing that costs next to nothing.
  3. Every time they walked past a member of staff, they were greeted with a huge smile and a “Good day, sir”. By everyone — including the cleaners and gardeners.

Another small thing, that costs next to nothing.

But the value it delivers?

Priceless.

People will forget what you do, but they’ll never forget how you make them feel.
