Do you know your numbers?

I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date!

Or at least, for today’s blog post. And that’s because I’m catching up from being at a dental technology event on Friday. I was there all weekend after getting up at silly o’clock on Friday morning. Yep, you read that right: dental technology.

Get your accounts in order, know your numbers or you can’t tell what’s working for you.

I was there because one of my clients supplies dental technology to dental labs and dental technicians. And she shows them how to grow their dental labs… which is why I’m here. I presented a workshop on Saturday afternoon on how to make your business stand out (or in their case how to make their dental lab stand out) so you can win more and better clients, and serve them better, and have them be delighted to pay you more.

It was super cool.

But on Friday, I learned a whole heap of fascinating stuff about finances. See, we’ve had a talk on accountancy – I know right, dull as? – except it wasn’t. It was really interesting and Kevin is a great speaker.

He’s been showing us all the amazing stuff we can do by making a few small changes in the way we bill clients, and a few tiny tweaks elsewhere in the business. And he’s been showing us how to use software to automate the whole bloody lot. I can’t wait to get started… and it’s all stuff I’m going to be sharing with my Small Business Superheroes.

Suffice it to say, though, if you don’t know your numbers – your profit and loss – you can’t possibly plan properly. Nor can you know what’s working and what’s not. So, as they say in EastEnders: SORT IT AAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWT!

Not sure where to start? No worries. I can help. Get your hot little mitts on my book, Business For Superheroes, here:

Vicky Fraser is a copywriter, author, and entrepreneur. She really did run away with the circus… but when she’s not swinging from a trapeze, she’s showing other copywriters and small business owners how to work with better clients, make more money, and stop missing bathtimes, first words, and dinners with angry partners. In fact, she wrote the book on it. Get your copy here.

PS It’s been a week of learning… last week, I was in London Town discovering a whole bunch of exciting stuff to do with where I’m going to take my copywriting business this year. I’ll tell you all about it later this week…
