The big business butts blocking your profits

I like big butts and I cannot lie!

Not yours, though.

There is nothing more annoying than the words “Yes, but…” Try it and see!

No offence, like. It’s just big buts have no place in your business or your vocabulary.

Because ohmygod is there anything more annoying than the words

“Yes, but…”

Don’t answer that. It’s a rhetorical question. When it comes to business and marketing, take it from me: the words “yes, but” are carrot-gratingly irritating.

Case in point.

A few weeks ago, I was giving a workshop at a conference. I was showing technical folks how they could use newsletters to grow their business. Printed, paper newsletters.

This is one of those areas where I’m kind of a big deal.

Just kidding, but I do know what I’m talking about. I know they can be very effective in getting people to buy more shit from you.

So you can imagine my expression when, at every turn, one particular person replied with, “Yes, but…”


They had a problem for every solution and, based on nothing but an opinion, knew newsletters wouldn’t work for them.

I don’t have all the answers.

I’m not saying a newsletter would definitely have increased their sales or improved their business.

It wasn’t a magic bullet and the only thing that would do any good.

But for fuck’s sake, try it before you dismiss it.

And that, my furry friend, is what marketing your business is all about.

Trying stuff, and seeing if it works.

But not just trying every bright shiny object in an ADHD scattergun kind of way — trying the stuff that’s most likely to work for you, and sticking with it long enough to find out.

Taking advice from someone who’s been there, done that, and failed multiple times… and learning from them.

Sending your ideas, your marketing pieces, and your writing to someone who’ll show you — in detail — how you can improve them.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was something out there that could do that for you?

Oh — there is! ;o)

If you’re fond of sticking your but in people’s faces when they give you a suggestion, this probably isn’t for you.

But if you’re willing and enthusiastic about taking advice from someone who’s been there and made it work… if you’re willing to try stuff without dismissing it out of hand…
