Brace yourself: a rant is coming…
About motivational mindset pants.
I’m interviewing a rather splendid lady today for my podcast. Her name’s Stefanie Arroyo, and she runs a group call Marketing, NOT Mindset.Somewhat amusingly, she changed the name of her group fairly recently to focus on marketing, not mindset… and a bunch of her members got in a right huff and left.
Which tells you a lot about what they’ll achieve (or won’t, rather).
Because, like me, Stefanie is on a Mission to get business owners actually doing stuff that’ll grow their business – rather than sharing fluffy motivational pants memes on social media and hoping that’ll somehow magically manifest itself into piles of gold ingots.
Now don’t wilfully misunderstand me here: mindset is important. If you’re a Negative Nellie, shit will keep happening to you and you’ll blame everyone around you but yourself and your life will never get any better.
If you’re a Positive Penny, you will actively look for opportunities to improve your life, so you’re more likely to take those opportunities and work to improve your own life.
See the difference?
What Stefanie was ranting about in her FB livestream this morning was similar. She was talking about all Gary Veeeeeeeeee’s millions of followers, hanging off his every motivational meme, and desperate to be near him.
Now sure, Gary Veeeeeee has done very well for himself and built an amazing business. I’m not denying that.
But people don’t follow him for his business savvy… they follow him for the motivational mindset pants he flings at them.
And following someone for that reason, because they simply make you feel good about yourself, will keep you broke.
Because what you need — what I need — is actual stuff to do that works.
We don’t need any more motivational pants. I have many pairs of my own, and so do you.
So next time you decide to swap your money for the latest guru offering, ask yourself this: will that motivational guru actually help you grow your business? Will what you’re buying give you something solid and real you can apply in your business right now?
Or are you really buying into the idea that “If I just do this one thing, everything will change for me”…?
Because if it’s the latter, you’re going to be disappointed. Again.
Instead, start with the basic stuff you need to do to grow your business.
And do it. One thing at a time.
That is my Mission — to help you do that.
